I love Scottish house samplers!!


I just love Scottish House Samplers!  I have probably mentioned this before, but I love samplers with Scottish houses, pictures of Scottish houses, books that take place in Scottish houses...you get the picture :)  I have a new antique Scottish house sampler to share with you!  It is Janet Weston, 1810.  She was christened on 29 Nov 1798 at Cumbernauld, Dunbarton, Scotland.  This sampler is just beautiful!  She does have some issues (loss of background fabric, but she has been carefully conserved on nearly matching linen so that the holes do not show.  That's all ok, because if she was perfect I never would have been able to afford her!









Verse, house, family names, initials, thistles, lots of animals, arcaded band, strawberry border...
I love it!

And Bella in her new bed.  She had her teeth cleaned today, and at 2 yrs old had so much tartar causing bacteria that she had to have 3 pulled!!  Poor baby, she really was not cared for before coming here.


I think this is such a funny picture...Bella on left, that is Bertie (my mother's poodle) on the right.  Check out the body language... he is really disgusted, thinking "ooh, ick, send her back!"

    It is a beautiful sampler! I didn't know there was such a thing as Scottish house samplers. Having Scottish roots, I'll have to read up on them!
    Love the pics of the animals. The body language of the little poodle is definitely saying 'ew!'

    Your kittens have become cats...lol!
    The pic of Bella and Bertie is precious. I do hope Bella is feeling better.
    Is this the sampler you told me about last month or is it another one? I can't remember what the other one looked like. I miss my mind. It is a wonderful addition to your collection.

    Such cute dog photos! I also like Scottish sampler. The only ones I have are the reproductions ones that I have stitched. Lucky you! My family home in Arbroth , Scotland is still standing.

    What a gorgeous find! Love so much of the detail of that sampler! The kitties are so adorable and Bella is a cutie. I hope Bella and Bertie will be best of friends before long :)

    Love the pics of the fur babies but oh my gosh, that Bella is adorable. She almost looks like a bunny and the body language is priceless!
