I am SO mad at my kittens!!!

I have this beautiful c. 1840 Scottish tall case clock, my mother bought it and it is one of my most treasured antiques!!

All original, beautiful finish, keeps great time.  But, sadly, no longer pristine.  Look at what those blasted kittens did!!  :(  I had it on a different wall, and there was a wing back chair next to it.  They started jumping up on the top to listen for mice in the walls.  Don't be too aghast, you can't help but have mice in the walls of an old house.  There really wasn't anything I could do about it, and I didn't think they were really doing any harm.  But today I decided to move it to another location.  LOOK WHAT THEY DID!!!  It is hard to tell from the picture, but each side had speaker like things for the sound, very intricate fretwork with cloth behind it.  The ripped all the fabric out, and most of the fretwork is gone...it probably fell on the floor in little pieces and was eaten by Oliver.  I will have it repaired, but it is no longer all original!!!  gggrrrrrrrr............

Goodness they are frisky little things but I see why they did it...it's what they do. I'm so sorry and hope you can get it repaired.

  6. I am so sorry to hear about what they did. At first I thought you were going to say they somehow knocked it over. They are so lucky you are their mom or they may not have gotten off so easily!!!
    Hugs :)

  7. From a fellow antique lover, I'm so sorry. I don't have cats but Iost a beautiful hand blown jar today. The DH failed to secure a screen in a window and the wind blew the screen onto the room taking with it my beautiful jar. Men and Cats!!!!!

  8. Oh Melinda.....your clock is just beautiful and I am so sorry those little darlings got their claws into it. I am an animal lover like you are but there are times when these precious furbabies can try one's patience. My kitty Patches is pretty quiet now but oh the mischief she made as a kitten. She used to hide on a dining room chair and then jump out at our sheltie as he walked by....one day he took a claw on his nose and boy oh boy did I have a mess to clean up....of course we won't talk about the side of my couch that is hidden by a table that was used as a scratching post...LOL...or my antique cedar chest that has a beautiful scratch still visible, even after a repair, from someone who shall be nameless...as she is sitting here by me purring reminding me not to tell tales on her...winks

  9. So sorry about your clock! Unfortunately, there is that destructive side to the sweet little things. Thankfully, ours have settled down some as they have gotten older.

  10. Oh No!!! What a beautiful clock. Although I'm an animal lover (always had a dog as a kid)...their destructive nature is one of the reasons why we don't own one now. My five year-old daughter can be naughty enough..LOL. Hopefully it's not too costly to have it repaired. BTW, love your home and your blog.

  14. Unfortunately I have had many things ruined by my kitties over the years. So sad. I just can't think of them or I would cry. Really. But I love my little kitties so I keep putting up with them. The two I have now I had declawed. Hated that and felt so bad but I have had 40 years of shredded furniture and woodwork, etc. so had them declawed. Now that they are older I do not regret it. But hated it when I had it done. I feel for you Melinda.
