Christmas Decorating in 70 degree weather...

Today I was finally in the mood to start some Christmas decorating.  I know that many people around the world are used to warm weather at Christmas, but that is just not how I grew up and how I think it should be.  Last year was the opposite extreme, snow before Thanksgiving, and this year record highs of 70 degrees!

I gathered all my stitching ornaments I have made through the years together and photographed them before getting the small family room tree up.  Here they are, various designers, lots of Prairie Schooler and Homespun Elegance.  I hope years from now my son still has these and treasures them :)

Here they are on my small primitive tree.  The larger tree is up in the living room but the ornaments are not on yet.  I haven't used all my breakable ornaments for several years because of the kitties.  But as my Mother ages, I am definitely going to get them all out this year.  She was so disappointed last year when I didn't use them.  Perhaps I will tie each one on with a string to hopefully cat proof them.  Yes, I have tried those noise makers that make a loud sound if the cat touches the tree, but they don't work for me...the cats just figure out where it is ok for them to pounce :(  See the framed Currier and Ives print on the wall?  That is how I think Christmas should be.

Here is a hand made painted tin reindeer in a punch needle deer pouch.

Just a couple simple trees and snow globes.  Behind is my treasured primitive painting from Lauren of Rugs and Pugs.

Santas Through the Years.

I love this hand made lamb from an antique mold.  I don't take things down for Christmas, just add to it.

Lastly, here is my dear Mother with Bella, Bertie and Oliver.

She approved of this photo, as she thinks she is hidden behind the dogs ...LOL!

  1. That is a great picture of your mother. I know just how she feels about having her picture taken. You have a wonderful collection of ornaments. We have no snow but cool temps and lots of rain! At least this year our mountains are getting snow so after about a 2 hour ride, I could be in the snow.

  2. Oh, my Melinda ~
Those ornaments are all so wonderful and just perfect on your tree!
I do hope the kitties behave themselves so you won't have any broken ornaments. I'm still heartbroken over the ornaments I lost when my tree fell 2 years ago.
Aw, you know how to make a girl blush. Thanks for the compliment.
Sweet pic of mother and the furbabies.
    Hugs :)

  3. Lovely collection of ornaments even if it seems like spring outside, your house looks very festive and who knows maybe we all will get a Christmas surprise snow! Animals always enhance ones appearance but your moms so tiny I could hardly see her for the sweet pups. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

  4. I love your tree and ornaments. I'm loving the weather. My brother finally bought a snow blower and with his luck, there won't be any snow to blow this year! Hope Mom is doing well.

  11. Love seeing your Christmas decorating! I hope you find a solution for the kitties and the tree. We are extremely lucky -- for some reason, Mia is never interested in the tree. Maybe the water, but not anything else. Knock on wood! Hope you have a great Christmas!
