My first giveaway ... a sampler!

Hello, everyone,
I am excited to host my first giveaway!  This is not in honor of any milestone, but because it drives me crazy that I have l20 followers and get an average of 8 comments!  Not to belittle those people who always comment...I love you and am so happy to get your comments!  I'm just hoping to generate some new followers and new commenters (is that a word?) and make some new friends!  The rules are as follows:  Leave me a comment on THIS post telling me what you enjoy about my humble little blog,  for one entry.  Post this giveaway on your blog for another entry(and make sure you let me know).  I will choose the winner on August 30.  I won't use any fancy number generator, because I don't know how :), will just put everyone's name on a piece of paper in a box and draw one.

Here's what I'm offering.  The winner has her choice of two samplers.  The first is Houses of Hawk Run Hollow by Carriage House Samplers.  It is stitched on either a 34 or 35 ct, and measures 19 3/4 x 15.  I have stitched MD Cole in the year 2010 in the first block, but you could very easily pick that out and add the name and year of your choosing.

The second choice is Sarah Moon 1791, an Ackworth School reproduction sampler.  I believe it is on 32 count, and I have aged it with walnut dye.  It measures 17 3/4 x 15.

Both samplers are unframed for ease in mailing.  They are also both stitched on linen with DMC floss.

Hope you like them, and looking forward to hearing from you!!!!!!!

Hugs,
Melinda

  1. Hello there......Please enter my name in your wonderful give-away. ...and what a marvelous give-away it is! The first sampler reminded me of the day (when I was a little girl) and my Mom and my Grandpa took me along to the cemetery where my Grandma was buried. Grandpa loved poems so when we got there he started reciting "Remember me as you pass by". My Mom was not too happy that Grandpa was saying that to a wee little girl like me! But I have never forgotten that poem! Sorry to go on so. Thank you for the give-away!

    1. Hello Melinda, I can see that you share the love of samplers as I do! Never enough samplers to have. I have a whole wall in my dining room with nothing but samplers! I only do the copies of the antique ones and I love putting them in an nice old frames and the old glass if I can get it. I am always looking for good samplers to work on. It is so relaxing to me to be working on one. I am so pleased to have found your site and am putting it in my favorites. I got it from Carmen. She does beautiful work and is truly such a nice person as well. Good luck with whatever you try to do. Your samplers are just beautiful and I see that you enjoy working Marsha's from The Scarlet Letter as I do.I think her things are some of the best out there. Thank you for your time and hope that you have a good day. Sincerely, Barbara

  2. Melinda ~
I like that you are a fellow buckeye, cross stitcher, hooker, and gardener. I like that you share your life with us. I especially like when we get a glimpse in your home (hint...more!).
Many times I feel the same as you do about a lack of comments!
What a generous give-away!!! I promise if I am chosen I will give the sampler a REALLY good home.
    Pug hugs :)

  3. Melinda!!! You're giving away your samplers??!!! You are one generous soul!! Wow! And such beautiful work too! How could you bear to let your stitching go? Well, since I've already got Houses of HRH hanging on my wall, I'll have to go with Sarah Moon, which I want to stitch but probably will never get around to. So please put me down in the giveaway for Sarah. Thank you so much for the giveaway!

  4. Hello Melinda! Wow, this is quite an extravagant give away. It takes me so long to complete a sampler that I would not be able to part with it. Please enter my name on the Houses of Hawk Run Hollow. Hugs to you - Kelley Secrest

  5. Melinda, both of those are beautiful. You certainly are blessed to live in that wonderful house and do the things you love. I love reading about your activities. As for followers.I have been very slow, in my opinion reaching followers for blogging almost 2 years. It depends on how many comments are left, to what I have posted about. Lack of comments bothered me for a while, but I remember the blogs I read for a year and never commented on. I truly enjoy blogging and reading blogs. Have fun blogging, that is what it is all about.lol Those are such beautiful samplers, as are all of yours.

  6. Your samplers are beautiful. I'm relatively new to your blog but looking forward to learning more about you. I just took up stitching again after many years.

  7. Gurlfren, I'm not entering your giveaway because I don't do samplers. But I will still agree with the comments. AND, the things I like about your blog are those GORGEOUS hunks of horseflesh, (I use to have a horse when I was a teen) and the occasional hooked or penny rug piece you will post (I'm a hooker). But keep up the good work and keep those beautiful horse pictures coming. Oh, also liked the kittens but the horses more.

  15. I don't think those of us who love your blog understood how important it is to comment! I love your blog because the samplers you highlight are exactly the type that I love. Right now, I'm needlepointing a stocking for a beloved grandson, but can't wait to get back to samplers. Reading your blog just reminds me what I love most.

  16. I love your blog Melinda - I check it almost every day. Just seeing your samplers inspires me to stitch - stitching like mad on Margaret to catch up now. Your blog is great - looking forward to seeing more of your garden, kitties and your home. (and of course, your samplers.) I have also stitched Houses of Hawk Run and have started Sarah Moon so no need to include me in give away - just wanted to support you and your blog. We are out there looking even tho we do not comment,

  19. How can you stand to part with either of those, Melinda? Such lovely pieces - I can't imagine giving them away. I hope they go to a good home. Did I mention that I have a good home?! LOL. I have been a follower for a long time but just realized, when I saw your post on another blog, that I hadn't read anything from you in a while. Somehow your blog dropped off my blog roll. One of the things I love about your blog are your gardens and of course, all of your beautiful stitching. Not a new commenter but so glad to add you back to my blog roll. I wonder who else might have dropped off?? Now I'm worried.

  20. Oh my goodness me!! Are you serious??? How can you bear to part with either of those beauties. I mean the charts would have been great but a stitched up piece???? Oh please put my name down. I would be honored to win. Love them both but if I get first choice then I'l go with Houses. But either are just as nice. Thanks for the chance. xxx

  29. Thank you for your give-away! New to your blog but loved seeing your stitching. We have stitched many of the same. I don't blog myself (or im or tweet) as it would take away from stitching time. I also have given away many repros to family and friends as my walls are full and I sure won't stop stitching. Will follow your blog from now on and comment although I don't do much of that either. All the best to you! MJ Quincy IL

I am so glad I have found your blog, I have arrived here through Cardan Antiques.I love everything about your blog, you are my kind of lady. We have 3 horses, 4 dogs, 2 cats and 200 chickens. I love samplers they give me peace, and my garden gives me calm and tranquility, (except for the weeds!!) I would love to win the Houses sampler, although how you can bring yourself to give them away I don't know. I would treasure it and would definatly not remove your name, that gives the sampler history. It would originate in America and travel onto me in England, what a journey, and who knows where it would end up in say, 200 years. Lovely to meet you, you have made my day. With love Julia in England UK

  70. I would love to win "Houses of Hawk Run Hollow"! What beautiful work you do and what a wonderful giveaway. Thank you for the opportunity. I'm your newest follower and have posted on my blog, CrossN' My Stitches about your blog and your giveaway.

I just found your blog this morning and I absolutely love it. Your love of flowers as well as cross stitch is why I love it. Your gardens make me think of my on yard back in New Hampshire. We had 3/4 of an acre back there and the whole yard was nothing but flowers. People would stop when they were out for their walks just to admire the flowers. I miss that yard so much.

Don't be dismayed by the lack of comments. Unless people subscribe by email, they don't know when a new post appears, unless they check back often. I know how you look forward to comments though, as I do as well.

So for now. Enter me twice for your drawing and thank you once again. I'll be back often. Keep up the great work on your blog.

I will post your giveaway on my side bar...as for a choice..so hard but my heart LOVES Quaker designs and I've always wanted to stitch a big Quaker (it's in the works for next year). I love, love, love your samplers - each one is more gorgeous than the previous one. You should feel so very proud to have accomplished so much! I also like your animal and decorating pictures - thanks for sharing so much.

Your giveaway is just fabulous. I would love to have either one of your giveaways. They are just beyond generosity.

  92. I just found you thanks to Carmen's blog (Carden's Anitques and Needlework). How generous you are to give away one of your beautiful samplers. I would love to win one. I would also love to have you create a garden for me. Yours is so beautiful and friendly. It looks like a great place to stitch or read. I look forward to folowing your blog and seeing your work. Thanks, TNladybug.

  93. Wow! Hi Melinda. I just followed a link to your blog. What eye candy! I loved seeing the samplers, kitties, horses, etc.
What an amazing giveaway. I would have a hard time parting with either piece. I have often admired those designs, but wonder if I would have the patience to finish them.
I see you are from Ohio. I am from southern Ohio myself.
I've added you to my favorites, so I will be checking in again. I am guilty of reading a lot and not posting much.
    Have a great day!

  94. Your samplers are lovely. I was amazed at all the ones you have pictured. Blogs have definitely changed my view of the world. There for awhile I thought everyone was just interested in making money and that hand work was an artform that was quickly disppearing. I love looking at all the beautiful things people are making and all the wonderful ideas that are out there.

  95. I have visited your blog on several occasions and have enjoyed seeing your farm and gardens. I love, love, love your samplers. Have you been making any rugs lately? Are you going to the Maria Barton class in Tipp in November? Hope to see you there.

  102. I love your home. I have one a little like it, I live in a saltbox and the front looks a lot like your home except for no front porch.
I also love your “Samplers” they are all beautiful. My daughter-in-law recently talked me into doing a wall collage with some of my samplers, at first I fought her on this idea, but then gave in and am so glad I did. I also am impressed with your flower garden, wonderful. I have just recently found out about these blogs and wonder where I have been that I have not found them before. So many people with the same “tastes” as mine and I have felt so alone here in Western Kentucky because there are so few women that have like the same things I so enjoy. Sending you an email may not be the way I was suppose to enter your very generous contest, but please enter me in the Houses of Hawk Run Hollow. I’m hoping to start a blog one day soon. Maybe!!!

  104. Well, I have had you in my FAVORITES for some time and check in with you bi-weekly but I didn't realize I could follow you since I don't have a blog. My daughter is home visiting and I showed her the colors of your house(which I love) and she showed me how to follow AND leave a comment. It's a new day!!!! You bring so much pleasure and inspiration to me. I'd be a sad girl if you were stop blogging. I'd comment and tell you so too. Thank you for sharing with strangers. Krissy B.

  107. This comment is coming long past your giveaway, but I just had to comment upon what a generous gift you offered to your followers! Both samplers are beautiful, and I'm sure the winners must have been quite happy with their prize.
