Marjorie, the winner of my drawing, has made her choice of Houses of Hawk Run Hollow, so it is on its way to her.
As promised, I have picked a second name out of my crock. The second place winner is Wendy at Ravenwood Whimsies. Sorry I didn't take a picture of her name being drawn, but I wore out my camera battery today! So if Wendy would please write to me with her name and address, I will have Sarah Moon on its way on Tuesday.
Thanks again for all the wonderful support, and I look forward to getting to know all of you better. Have a nice Labor Day Weekend, it is supposed to be a wash-out here from Isaac, but that actually is a good thing, we are having such a terrible drought!
Hugs,
Melinda

Time for the Drawing!!
Greetings, all...
I am truly in awe of the response that I have received to my giveaway! I have about 70 new followers! Unbelievable! I expected maybe a couple of dozen, but nothing like what has happened! I am so pleased and honored at all the complimentary letters I have received from people, people who have actually gone back and read previous postings on my blog. Thank you so much!! I am so flattered, but also a little intimidated...I hope that I can continue to post things that interest you...
Today is my dear mother's 86th birthday, and I am having her draw the name. I am so blessed to have my mother, who is also my dearest friend and companion.
So, on to the main attraction. Here is a picture of a crock with everyone's name on a little piece of paper inside. Very low tech...no fancy automated computer drawing (I don't know how) :)

Congratulations Marjorie!! I have your email, but would you please write me with your full name and address? I have a priority mail package all ready to send out with whichever sampler you choose.
And, in appreciation of all my followers, after Marjorie chooses which sampler she prefers, I am going to draw another name as a consolation prize for the second sampler. No need to enter again, I will keep all the names in the crock.
Again to everyone...thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am so pleased to have you all as followers and hope that you will continue to comment!
Many hugs,
Melinda

My first giveaway ... a sampler!
Hello, everyone,
I am excited to host my first giveaway! This is not in honor of any milestone, but because it drives me crazy that I have l20 followers and get an average of 8 comments! Not to belittle those people who always comment...I love you and am so happy to get your comments! I'm just hoping to generate some new followers and new commenters (is that a word?) and make some new friends! The rules are as follows: Leave me a comment on THIS post telling me what you enjoy about my humble little blog, for one entry. Post this giveaway on your blog for another entry(and make sure you let me know). I will choose the winner on August 30. I won't use any fancy number generator, because I don't know how :), will just put everyone's name on a piece of paper in a box and draw one.
Here's what I'm offering. The winner has her choice of two samplers. The first is Houses of Hawk Run Hollow by Carriage House Samplers. It is stitched on either a 34 or 35 ct, and measures 19 3/4 x 15. I have stitched MD Cole in the year 2010 in the first block, but you could very easily pick that out and add the name and year of your choosing.
The second choice is Sarah Moon 1791, an Ackworth School reproduction sampler. I believe it is on 32 count, and I have aged it with walnut dye. It measures 17 3/4 x 15.
Both samplers are unframed for ease in mailing. They are also both stitched on linen with DMC floss.
Hope you like them, and looking forward to hearing from you!!!!!!!
Hugs,
Melinda

A beautiful new sampler!!
Ok, so it's only the chart...hehe, but oh what a chart! It was most probably stitched by Mary Meikle, is of Scottish origin, by way of New Zealand! This beauty was charted by the famous Olwyn Horwood (of Blue Ribbon Sampler fame) and was ordered from Heirlooms in New Zealand. As you can see, it is a beautiful sampler, and will bump it's way up my to-do list.
I thought I would share with you my three All Time Favorite Samplers!!
First, Isabel Redie (Scarlet Letter)
Dutch Beauty (Permin of Copenhagen). This took me 4 years to stitch!!
And Sarah Willson (Scarlet Letter).
Have a nice week!
Hugs,
Melinda

New old rug and antique samplers
Hello, all,
First off, I have to tell you about my extremely traumatic day... the horses got out!! My "darling" son left the pasture gate open, and around noon the neighbor across the street called to say there were three horses in her yard. By the time I ran out there, they were heading down the street towards the main road! I was in an absolute panic, but I think they had the best time they've ever had in their entire lives. They were running through the fields with their tails up and flowing. It would have been beautiful if it wasn't such a catastrophe! They ran across the road several times, I'm calling them and crying, they heard me calling them and came trotting back down the street, but then turned the wrong way and headed off again! We finally got them and everybody is fine, except son is in the doghouse big time!!! There is now a lock on the gate.
On to the topic of the day...this is the new old rug that I bought. I have absolutely no idea how old it is, the pattern/design looks very antiquey-primitive, but it is in too good of condition to be really old. Maybe some of the rug hookers who read this blog can help me out. I love the mustard color and the lollipop flowers. It was not expensive and is very dirty...don't really know what to do about that.
Here is the new addition to my sampler collection. Scottish, Dorothy Crawford 1845. I would guess it to be her first sampler, and I love the naiveté of her little bunnies.
Scottish samplers are my favorite. Here is one I got on e-bay a few months ago, it is still unframed.
It is Mary Ritchie. ____ year of her age (she picked it out). Not dates, but from the motifs I would guess late 1700's, early 1800's. The illumination around the letters at the top is quite ornate.
Then there is one more, this I have had for awhile. It is a very basic Scottish alphabet, MD (initials only) 1751. This I purchased because of the initials, my maiden initials were MD.
I have always had the idea to chart some of my antiques so that I could stitch my very own repro but have never gotten around to it.
That's all for now, I need to relax!
